Frequent Flyer by Margaret King
There's a child at the core of everyone. I like to bring mine out to play. With four granddaughters, I am fortunate to have many opportunities. Thanks to Half Price books for publishing a reflection of these playful encounters. |

When I Grow Up by Savannah Lyons
I love to write and read books. My parents and my best friend, Brooklyn Hairston, always support me and keep me full of story ideas. Audrey Hepburn also influences me. I think she is amazing. English has always been my favorite subject since I can remember. I love books. On Saturdays, my friends and family can most likely find me hanging out at a bookstore or the library. I'm pretty much the coolest bookworm anyone's ever met. I do sports and play music, but reading and writing are my addiction of choice. I thank God for giving me the talent to write and read. Without Him, nothing would be possible. |

Snowflakes in the Night by Janna Matthies
I enjoy nothing more with my three children than snuggling into the couch with a stack of good books. Full characterization, imaginative storylines and themes that inspire hope or joy are my favorites. After 12 years as a PR/Advertising writer, I turned in my predictable workload and decided to pursue the dream of writing stories for childrenstories like those I described above. It's been nearly two years since I began this journey. I've eaten up the chance to exercise my creativity through lots of poems, stories, songs and a fable that was recently accepted by "Spider" magazine. Always a great lover of visual arts, writing picture books is my current goal. In this genre, the shared process of bringing a story to life can be electric. I am thankful for my husband and kids, who provide more inspiration than my pen could ever write, and to my Creator for sharing some of His creative nature with me. |

Grandpa Pete & Me by Donna Lee Murphy
I was raised on Mother Goose and Dr. Suess and started writing poetry in 4th grade. My first poem was printed in the Chicago Heights Star newspaper in its King Arthur's Court children's poetry feature. My mom read Alice's Adventures in Wonderland to me when I was little, and my grandpa loved to tease my sister and me with his "fractured fairy tales." My mentor, Kenn Nesbitt, of poetry4kids.com took me under his wing in 2005. Thank you Kenn! I work as a captioning assistant for CapTel, Inc., where we provide captioned telephone service for the deaf/hearing impaired. |

Harvey & the Horrible Sneeze by Amy Nichols
Writing has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. As a child, I wrote and illustrated my own books. In my adolescent years, I wrote moody and selfindulgent poetry. However, as a young adult, I spent years finding creative ways to avoid pursuing writing due to fear of rejection, failure...even success. Now, I've finally run out of excuses and am ready to embrace what I've come to think of as my calling. I've turned my sights toward writing fictional short stories and novels, most of which fall under the umbrella of "magical realism." I also enjoy making up stories for my children, and hope to publish more children's stories in the future. I'm thrilled that my first publication is in this anthology and I get to participate in such a wonderful cause. |
